In 2021, the Société des amis de Marcel Proust et des amis de combray, acquired, thanks to the support of the Fonds du patrimoine and the generosity of nearly eighty donors, federated around a subscription organized by the association, a marine by Thomas Alexander Harrison (1853-1930), Beach Tides. Marcel Proust was inspired by this painter for his character Elstir in À la recherche du temps perdu. This brochure discusses the circumstances under which Marcel Proust came to know Thomas Alexander Harrison, attempts to locate Beach Tides, and clarifies Harrison's part -- his life, his personality, and his artistic aesthetics -- in the character of Elstir.
