On July 10, 2021, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Marcel Proust's birth; on November 18, 2022, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of his death. The proximity of these two dates has prompted us to design this diary covering the sixteen months and eight days between them.
The white edition is a prestige edition with hardcover and dust jacket, printed in only 150 copies, of the same size as the standard edition as well as the same content.
"Unchanging anniversaries invite us to renew the tribute of constant feelings" wrote Marcel Proust to Robert de Montesquiou in January 1897. For the friends, the admirers of the writer, the readers that his work has moved or upset, the chance of the calendar is going to offer the occasion, on two consecutive years, to prove him right. On July 10, 2021, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth; on November 18, 2022, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of his death. The proximity of these two dates has prompted us to design this diary covering the sixteen months and eight days between them.
Each day is associated with an event, significant or anecdotal, in the life of Proust, his family, and his friends. When no really relevant information was available (because we know very little about Marcel Proust's life on a day-to-day basis), we chose to share some of the aphorisms that the writer has the secret of, which punctuate the entire Recherche. Double-page spreads separating each week feature longer quotations, illustrated with photographs from our Marcel-Proust Museum - Aunt Léonie's House, a few works from our collections, landscapes and places that the writer enjoyed, and portraits of his friends and family members.
Among the many publications that the Proustian commemorations will certainly generate, may this diary accompany admirers of Proust's work in their daily lives, in what will constitute for them "pleasures and days" throughout these months when, even more than usual, the literary, poetic and visionary genius of the author of In Search of Lost Time.
The cover of the standard edition is printed on Fedrigoni paper (collection "Constellation Snow Intreccio") unlike the interior pages.
